With one of the deepest teams in the league, the Thunder appear to be well-positioned to contend for years to come. But could they look to add even more firepower to their loaded squad?
ClutchPoints’ Bailey Basset has proposed a blockbuster trade that would see the Thunder trade for an NBA legend in LeBron James to add to their young core
Thunder receive: LeBron James, Bronny James.
Lakers receive: Isaiah Hartenstein, Aaron Wiggins, Kenrich Williams, 2026

This hypothetical deal would send LeBron James, along with his son Bronny James, to the Oklahoma City Thunder while giving the Lakers a collection of solid role players and valuable draft picks to pair with Luka Dončić.
Hartenstein solves the Lakers’ problems in the frontcourt, giving them the center they desperately need, while Wiggins and Kenrich Williams would bring versatility and depth.
James, who is entering his 23rd season, recently opted into his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 season. Even at the age of 40, James continues to defy Father Time. Last season he averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists on 51% shooting from the field.
While it’s clear that the Thunder do not need to shake their roster drastically, the idea of pairing LeBron James with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Williams should be hard to pass on.
Even after winning a championship, the Thunder remained busy trading Dillon Jones to the Washington Wizards to create roster space.
The Thunder recently drafted Thomas Sorber with the No.15 pick in this year’s draft. It seems a move for LeBron James would drastically shake up the NBA landscape.
