Thunder predicted to poach away Suns superstar in blockbuster trade

The Oklahoma City Thunder are considered among the top three favorites to win the 2025 NBA title, but if they fall short, a huge roster move could happen over the summer.

OKC has a ton of draft capital to toss around in a blockbuster deal. It’s why they’ve been linked to a reunion with Kevin Durant, among other stars.

The Phoenix Suns are going nowhere and are widely expected to trade KD and build something new around Devin Booker.

Booker, who turns 29 in October, is slightly older than most people realize, however, and it might even be in Phoenix’s best interest to move on from him, as well, and initiate the truest of rebuilds.

The Suns have indicated that Booker isn’t available, but Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix doesn’t believe them.

On Thursday, Mannix argued why Phoenix may very well trade Book and listed some logical landing spots.

“The big question is Devin Booker,” Mannix wrote.

“If you believe Ishbia, Booker is not available. I’m not buying it. The Suns have control of Booker through the 2027–28 season so there is no urgency. But Booker is 28. He’s an elite scorer. His value will never be higher than it is this summer. You trade Durant, bring Booker back … and then what? The Suns don’t have the draft assets to make a blockbuster deal. You’re talking about bringing Booker back for his age-29 season to a team likely destined for the lottery.”

“To me, the smartest thing the Suns could do is put Booker on the block. There would be a bidding war. Houston, which holds a chunk of the Suns’ future draft capital, wants him. Detroit could be interested. So, too, could Oklahoma City, which could make an incredibly appealing offer.”

The Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons aren’t new landing spot ideas for Booker, but OKC is an interesting one that hasn’t been brought up too much.

Booker would be a nice fit playing off the ball alongside MVP favorite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

If the Thunder win it all this season, expect them to more or less bring back the same roster in 2025-26.

If they don’t, keep an eye on Booker.
