The Oklahoma City Thunder are the best team in the NBA, and are looking like they are getting even better. This offseason might reflect that, as they might get another superstar to add to their ranks.
Fansided’s Joseph Kallan predicted that the Thunder would be one team that would try to grab New Orleans Pelican superstar Zion Williamson this offseason.
“With elite depth, multiple scoring options, and an absurd 29 draft picks over the next six years, OKC is uniquely positioned to trade for a superstar without giving up any core players,” Kallan wrote. “Adding Williamson to a team with SGA, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, and Josh Giddey could create one of the most athletic and versatile teams in the league, giving the Thunder an edge they may need to get over the hump in the playoffs.”
Coming off a hamstring injury, Williamson has been balling out in the 22 games since then, averaging 24.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. His trade stock is at an all-time high, so the Pelicans might consider it.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon has reported that multiple teams are showing interest in Williamson, and the Thunder could possibly be one of them. They definitely have what the Pelicans would want in return; young stars and a ton of draft capital.
If the Pelicans decide to blow up their current team and start a rebuild, the Thunder could be their first call. They have what the Pelicans want, and vice versa. Hopefully they do, as it could start a dynasty in OKC.
