Thomas Muller nominates Bayern Munich star in big leadership role

Bayern Munich have seen a lot of change this summer as 11 players have moved on from Bavaria including club legend Thomas Muller, who has been with the club for 25 years.

Similarly, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman have also moved on to different teams after being senior players in Vincent Kompany’s roster.

Therefore, suddenly Bayern Munich have a vacuum in their leadership roles despite the presence of leaders like Manuel Neuer, Harry Kane and Joshua Kimmich.

Recently, Muller sat down for an extensive interview where he nominated a surprising Bayern Munich player who he feels could develop into the next big leader in Bavaria.

“I have a hot take regarding that: Michael Olise,” Muller told BILD when asked about the next Bayern leader. “Based on the way he conducts himself and his willingness to perform, I see him as an absolute key player for the coming years.”

“He can become the player who leads the way for Bayern in the future, as Franck Ribéry did in my time. He may be a different character than Franck, but he’s also the kind of guy who clearly says: “Give me the ball, I’ll take care of the rest!” – That’s how you can lead a team without being a loudmouth.”

Could Michael Olise become Bayern Munich’s next leader?

The 24-year-old has been one of the best signings for Bayern in the recent years as he played a big role in helping Kompany’s men reclaim the Bundesliga title.

Olise has become a fan favourite at Allianz Arena in no time due to his stark consistency and efficiency in the final third.

The France international has hardly put a foot wrong since moving to Bavaria from Crystal Palace for a reported €60m transfer fee.

The young winger finished a sensational debut season at Bayern with 20 goals and as many assists in 55 appearances across all competition.

He was easily one of the best performers for the German champions last season and has a knack of performing on big occasions, making him one of the new leaders in Bavaria.

While Olise is comparatively new to the Bayern Munich setup, fans and pundits have already compared him to Ribery mainly due to his nationality and efficiency in front of goal.
