The New York Yankees are 32-20, but the Detroit Tigers look like the best team in the American League so far this season. The Yankees could make a trade to change that.
The Yankees’ pitching staff could use some upgrades. The team has lost Gerrit Cole, removed Carlos Carrasco from the rotation, does not seem interested in relying on Marcus Stroman and is still without Luis Gil. FanSided’s Thomas Carannante suggested the Yankees make a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers to acquire Freddy Peralta.
“The Yankees can add another star option alongside Fried and Rodón with Gerrit Cole’s loss continuing to loom large, and they can guarantee themselves another asset for 2026,” wrote Carannante. “We failed to mention Marcus Stroman, but it feels like he’s as good as gone and can’t be factored into the team’s plans. A potential rotation of Fried-Rodón-Peralta-Gil-Schmidt with Warren and Yarbrough as depth/backup in case of injuries or performance issues sounds like a group that could get the Yankees through October.”
Peralta has a $8 million club option for 2026, which is extremely cheap considering the type of player he is. He has a 2.55 ERA this year and has been extremely reliable in terms of taking the ball every five days. He has 60 strikeouts this year.
Peralta has a 3.40 ERA since becoming a full-time starter in 2021. He is a former All-Star and is shaping up to make the All-Star game again this year. Adding him to the Yankees’ rotation could be huge for them as they look to repeat as American League champions.
