Arsenal have been linked with several goalscoring strikers in the summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta is keen to improve the number of goals in his roster, and signing a consistent striker is imperative.
The Gunners have been linked with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, among other targets. These three have been strongly linked with the North London outfit.
Recently, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry appeared on the Stick to Football podcast on The Overlapp. While he touched upon several topics around Arsenal. He also picked his favoured striker that he wants the Gunners to sign this summer.
“The most complete striker I’ve seen recently is Julián Álvarez,” Henry opined. “Putting pressure, playing alone, whatever you want to do. You see the free-kick he scored the other day?
“He can hold the ball alone. He played at the Olympic Games, he played at the Copa America. I don’t hear him saying ‘I’m tired’, he played everything. And the way he plays. I just like him.”
There’s no denying Alvarez’s quality, but at this point, considering his profile and the pricetag set by Atletico Madrid would make him a less probable signing. Also, he won’t come cheap for Arsenal as his reported pricetag is around £82 million.

What did the Atletico Madrid president say about Alvarez rumours?
The Argentine striker joined Atletico in 2024 from Manchester City, where he was overshadowed by Erling Haaland. He did well whenever Pep Guardiola gave him opportunities.
Los Colchoneros snapped him up from City for a transfer fee slightly more than £80 million. He has been a heartthrob for Atleti since joining, as he netted 29 goals in 54 appearances in his debut season in Spain.
Alvarez has signed a six-year contract as they see him as a player for now and the near future.
Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo, rubbished the rumours of the 25-year-old leaving the La Liga outfit.
“Julian Alvarez is a player of Atletico Madrid,” Cerezo said via Fabrizio Romano. “He’s very happy here, he’s our player and will remain our player. He was raised at Atletico Madrid, and he will die at Atletico Madrid.”
The 25-year-old cleared his stance on his social media after playing the last game for Los Colcheneroes this season. The Argentine has settled nicely at the Spanish club, and the return to the Premier League right now looks tough.
It would be a great deal if Arteta somehow manages to land the Argentine marksman this summer. He has the ability to score goals and also create chances for his fellow attackers. But considering he has recently joined Atletico Madrid, it is highly improbable that he will move twice in two years.
