Thibaut Courtois gives brutal assessment following Club World Cup exit

Real Madrid were not expecting the outcome they faced against PSG in the Club World Cup semifinals.

The Spanish giants came in expecting to put up a fight, but the French side tore apart Real, leaving them with their tails between their legs.

Real Madrid were crushed 4-0, which was almost the same margin as the lopsided Champions League final against Inter Milan that PSG also won.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois didn’t hold back after the loss, delivering the harsh truth about the team’s performance.

What did Courtois say after the match?

Courtois spoke with DAZN after the match and said, “We want to apologize to the fans.”

The goalkeeper went on to say, “What was the problem? We didn’t press as a team. There were two big mistakes at the start of the game, and that affected us.”

PSG capitalized on two Real Madrid mistakes, both leading to the opening two goals.

Real never regained their footing, as PSG continued to run rampant and led by three goals at halftime.

Courtois came to his manager’s defense, though, saying, “We failed to follow Xabi’s plan for the game. We need to take time and analyse it, but from what I saw, we were always arriving late to every situation.”

The goalkeeper gave another brutal post-game interview, and the Real Madrid fans will surely feel aggrieved after their team came so close to multiple trophies this season but failed to secure any.
