There are a lot of teams that could use Eugenio Suarez.
The New York Yankees are accompanied on that list by the likes of the Mariners, Brewers, Cubs and Tigers.
But there’s something New York might have more than any of those teams, according to ESPN’s David Schoenfield: “Desperation.”
“General manager Brian Cashman has said the Yankees are ‘going to go to town’ at the trade deadline, suggesting they need a starting pitcher, bullpen help and an infielder,” Schoenfield writes. “The offense has been better again in July after scuffling in June, but Aaron Judge could still use some help. There is an air of desperation as well with the Yankees, as the Toronto Blue Jays passed them in the standings, and Suarez is clearly a perfect fit for their gaping hole at third.”

The Yankees have a good farm system to offer up to the Diamondbacks, although not as good as Seattle’s.
But if New York is willing to pay the extra price, whatever it might be, that would go a long way toward landing Suarez.
The third baseman would solve the Yankees’ black hole at the hot corner currently being held down by Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas. Suarez has 36 home runs this season, fourth in MLB behind Cal Raleigh, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani.
The Yankees of old would always get deals like this done. It’s time for them to pull one off again.
