The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 18-inning World Series Game 3.
You’d think that would account for all the momentum they’d need, especially since it put them up two games to one in the series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
But then for the next two games, the Blue Jays looked like the team with all the momentum.
There might be a good reason for this.
ESPN’s Buster Olney shared this thought from an anonymous executive on X on Wednesday night: “Seems to me that the 18-inning game took a lot more out of the Dodgers than the Blue Jays. Dodgers are the older team, so to be expected.”

That’s just one assessment, and it’s a tad anecdotal, but it could also be reality.
The Dodgers are a team full of super talented veterans.
The Blue Jays have a lot more youth.
In a small sample size, that certainly could be not a big issue. Or it could be the biggest issue.
It’s impossible to prove the true correlation here. But the narrative certainly aligns.
The Blue Jays, after losing a marathon heartbreaker, were the unquestionably better team in both Game 4 and Game 5. There’s really no arguing otherwise.
And maybe, just maybe, that is because of how long Game 3 went.
It’s quite the coincidence, in any case.
The Dodgers played in the other longest game in World Series history, 18 innings in 2018. They won that game on a Max Muncy walk-off homer at Dodger Stadium.
And in that series, the Dodgers didn’t win another game. The Boston Red Sox won the World Series that year.
The Blue Jays are trying to follow that example to the finish line in 2025.
