The 2025 Cubs are having a historic season that has only been done twice

The Chicago Cubs are currently 35-21, leading the National League Central by three games as we approach June.

Even with the toughest stretch of opponents out of any team through the first 41 games of the season, the Cubs have maintained a lead in the NL Central and continue to dominate offensively.

In fact, after Pete Crow-Armstrong’s solo home run on Wednesday versus the Colorado Rockies, he joined Seiya Suzuki as the only players in the NL to hit the 50 RBI mark this season.

Per OptaSTATS, the Cubs are the third team in the live-ball era (since 1920) to have multiple players reach 50 RBI before June.

Larry Walker and Todd Helton did it for the 2001 Rockies, and Carlos Delgado and Vernon Wells did it for the 2003 Toronto Blue Jays.

The offensive display from the Cubs this season is nothing short of special. Chicago leads the NL in run differential (+95) and leads Major League Baseball in runs scored (330), RBI (322) and hits (512).

The team is also tied for third in MLB for home runs (79) and tied for second in MLB for batting average (.262), one point behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Suzuki leads MLB in RBI (51) and Crow-Armstrong is tied for second (50) with Rafael Devers, but the offense runs deeper than those two players.

Kyle Tucker has had a great season, Dansby Swanson has a .906 OPS in May, Nico Hoerner is hitting near .300, Michael Busch is picking up where he left off last season, rookie Matt Shaw has been excellent since being recalled from Triple-A Iowa on May 19 and the catcher position as a whole is producing at an All-Star level.

And it’s possible we haven’t seen the best version of the Cubs just yet. Ian Happ hasn’t produced as much as he can despite a .347 OBP. If Happ gets rolling, it’s going to be incredibly difficult trying to stop the Cubs offense.
