What does TGL stand for?
The start-up’s acronym isn’t short for “Tiger’s Golf League” despite the co-founder’s high-profile role in the operation.
It stands for TMRW Golf League, after the TMRW Sports entity led by Woods, McIlroy and former NBC Sports executive Mike McCarley.
TGL golf format
Matches are scheduled for two hours and will feature three of the four PGA Tour golfers from each roster going head-to-head.
The fifteen-hole courses are split into two sessions: A nine-hole, 3-on-3 format dubbed ‘triples,’ and a six-hole, head-to-head ‘singles’ round. Each hole is worth one point.
At the end of the regular season, the top four teams advance to the playoffs, featuring single-elimination semifinals and a best-of-three finals.
TGL golf stadium
- Name: SoFi Center
- Location: Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
The SoFi Center — a custom-built space on the campus of Palm Beach State College — will serve as the home of TGL. The SoFi Center is a 250,000 square foot venue with a capacity of 1,5000 fans and a field of play roughly the size of a regulation football field.
The SoFi Center includes a 64-by-53 foot screen, which will virtually display the trajectory of the ball on a chosen golf course, after the player tees off. There is also the green complex, roughly 22,475 square feet, which players will compete on once arriving within 50 yards of the pin.
