GBM Sports’ Harper vs Zimmerman press conference took place this week in Doncaster Rovers’ EcoPower Stadium, ahead of fight night this Friday, May 23, live worldwide on DAZN.
Hometown heroine Terri Harper defends her WBO world lightweight championship against undefeated German contender Natalie Zimmerman, while chief support Maxi Hughes and Archie Sharp will contest the WBC Silver lightweight strap.
Chaired by GBM CEO Izzy Asif, the press conference saw Denaby Main’s triple champion Harper talk about her pride at headlining in her home city and her intention to target bitter rival Caroline Dubois if successful on Friday night.
The younger sister of IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois is currently the WBC world lightweight titleholder and has been very vocal about fighting Harper.
The 24-year-old unbeaten lightweight champ, known as “Sweet Caroline”, was disappointed when Harper announced her fight with Zimmermann, claiming that it’s not how a world champion should act, “On a personal level, it’s disappointing that she’s taken that route, an easy touch against a girl that isn’t on our level.
“She’s fighting Zimmermann, but she isn’t going to get paid a lot for that, isn’t going to get a lot of respect for that, whereas fighting me, it’s a big show, a big occasion, good money, good fight and it makes sense.”
Terri Harper said the following during the presser for her stadium headliner, “I just want to start by thanking everyone involved in making this dream come true for me headlining in my home town stadium. It’s such an amazing opportunity and I’m really excited for it, I can’t wait.
“I’ve got the fire in me, the self-belief, the love for boxing. I’m hungry again and if I don’t get a statement win here on Friday night I’ll be disappointed.
“I don’t know what it is with Caroline Dubois or what her problem is but I honestly can’t wait to get paid to get in that girl’s face. First I’ve got to get past Natalie Zimmerman here on Friday night, then if she wants it next she can have it.”
WBO #10 Natalie Zimmerman had her say on the fight and warned Harper not to underestimate her, “I’ve brought in girls from all over Europe to give me hard sparring and try to replicate Terri Harper’s style. I have really put my all into this training camp. I am at my best and I will give my best. Becoming world champion on Friday night means everything to me.”
