Terence Crawford already eyeing next fight after Canelo clash

Four-weight world champion Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) challenges undisputed super-middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) on September 12 in Las Vegas.

The unbeaten Nebraskan is already eyeing his next opportunities after the super-fight with Canelo, intent on continuing to break records, make history and secure legacies in the sport.

Speaking to All the Smoke, Bud revealed, “I’m [fighting Canelo] for the opportunity, baby! The legacy! The legacy outweighs the money. Three-time undisputed. Coming soon…

“I might go back down to 154 and do it again. I might go back down and do it again. You don’t know what I’m gonna do.”

37-year-old Crawford is a super-lightweight and welterweight undisputed champion. A win over undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo would make him the first and only three-weight undisputed champion in a four-belt era.

He has held world titles in four weight classes – lightweight, super-lightweight, welterweight, super-welterweight.

He is audaciously jumping up two weight classes to challenge a pound-for-pound powerhouse, who has been the face of boxing for the past decade.

If successful, he will achieved all that there is to achieve in boxing, but if there’s a further chance to make history, then it will certainly be back down at super-welterweight, like he said. Crawford has already won the WBA world title at 154lbs, last August against Israil Madrimov, although it was a very close contest.

If he drops back down, then the opposing world champions he would need to face would be WBC’s Sebastian Fundora, IBF’s Bakhram Murtazaliev, and the WBO titlist, which is currently vacant, but likely to be contested soon by Xander Zayas and any of the top contenders, such as Jorge Garcia Perez.

Therefore, becoming undisputed at a fourth weight class would take at least a further two to three fights to unify against all the different titleholders.
