Tanking Eastern Conference team ‘waiting’ on Giannis Antetokounmpo despite Bucks’ success, per report

This Eastern Conference team could change the trajectory of their franchise by acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo.

As of right now, the Bucks are telling opponents a crazy message in regards to trade offers for their franchise player. However, that hasn’t stopped the Brooklyn Nets from dreaming.

A source reportedly told NetsDaily that the Nets still intend to tank despite a surprisingly strong start to the season, and “they will take two-year money if the draft assets are rich enough.”

“Cam Johnson for Khris Middleton and Milwaukee’s 2031 unprotected first, that sort of thing,” the source said. “Easier to move Middleton next year as an expiring if need be,” he said before adding, “But I don’t think they help Milwaukee because they are waiting on Giannis [Antetokounmpo].”

The Bucks could very well look to trade Middleton, with a Western Conference team potentially in the mix.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Nets have put some of their veterans on the block in hopes of accelerating their rebuild.

The assets the Nets could get back from trading Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Dennis Schroder could make a trade package look even more attractive.

Antetokounmpo still has a lot left in the tank, as he’s averaging over 30 points on 60% shooting.

The two-time MVP has also helped the Bucks climb out of an early hole, but with Damian Lillard, Brook Lopez, and Middleton all aging and seeing a bit of decline in their games, the championship window in Milwaukee could be all but closed by the time next season rolls around.

Though the Nets are unlikely to trade their first-round pick this year to try and cash in on a stacked draft class, they have plenty of other first-rounders, including Milwaukee’s 2025, to play with.

Perhaps a deal could happen between both franchises.
