Over the next few weeks, teams will be making big moves, and the first big peak of the offseason will be the NBA Draft later this month.
Throughout NBA history, the draft has been the site of some of the most exciting days for trades. While plenty of impactful and franchise-altering prospects will be flying off the board, even more magic will be happening behind the scenes.
Among the teams that will be operating behind the scenes is the Boston Celtics. After falling in the second round of this year’s playoffs and seeing their franchise player go down with an injury that will impact next season, the Celtics have some big decisions to make.
While the exact decisions might be difficult, the overall theme of Boston’s offseason will almost certainly be to cut money. With Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis as the likeliest odd men out, Boston might need to sweeten some deals to get those two out of town for a deal it likes.
As predicted by Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz, the Celtics could use their No. 28 pick to make those deals happen. Along with that, Boston also has the No. 32 pick, so a couple of picks in the middle of the draft could be critical for the Celtics’ offseason deals.

On the other hand, with Boston’s financial issues, adding a couple of cheap players at Nos. 28 and 32 could also be the ideal route to add talent to the core that sticks around this offseason. While Boston’s two picks could be perfect sweeteners to make trades, it might regret sending those picks out in the long run.
