Surprise signing by Crystal Palace could decide Marc Guehi’s Liverpool future

Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Brighton that could seal Marc Guehi’s fate at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles agreed to sign Brighton defender Igor Julio on a season-long loan with an option to buy, according to journalist Charlie Parker-Turner .

“Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Brighton to sign Igor Julio on a season-long loan. Personal terms not expected to be an issue.

West Ham also in the race but Palace in pole position to secure his signature as it stands,” Parker Turner wrote on his X account.

Hours later, the deal accelerated further with Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirming that that Brazilian is going medical at South London

“Understand Igor is undergoing his medical at Crystal Palace right now! Agreement done with #CPFC on loan with option to buy from Brighton.,” Italian wrote on X.

That swift confirmation could suggest the Eagles could be preparing for a future without their captain, Marc Guehi.

Liverpool’s interest in Guehi has dominated the final week of the window and according to reports, they tabled a £35m [$47m] bid on Friday before returning with an improved offer on Saturday worth £35m plus a ten percent sell-on clause.

Palace have not accepted either proposal just yet.

What does Crystal Palace’s leadership say as Liverpool chase Marc Guehi?

Marc Guehi has been one of the important player for Selhurst Park and just recently he underlined his value when Palace defeated Aston Villa 3-0.

Manager Oliver Glasner is a strong admirer of the England international and has repeatedly made it clear throughout the summer that he does not want Guehi to leave Crystal Palace “I think we are working on three more players coming in – one defender and two attackers.”

While Austrian manager Oliver Glasner wants to keep Marc Guehi, chairman Steve Parish is open to selling, knowing the defender will not sign a new contract.

Guehi, who joined from Chelsea in 2021 for £18m [$24m], has not signed an extension, leaving Palace with little margin for risk.

With Julio’s arrival, Palace may now consider selling their captain, and the transfer could go right up to the 7 p.m. deadline as one to watch closely.
