
A couple at the Madrid Open tennis tournament have stolen the spotlight with a pre-match proposal.
Sports stars are used to dealing with distractions from the crowd, but this instance was certainly out of the ordinary.
As Alex de Minaur and Lorenzo Musetti warmed up for their Round of 16 clash in the Spanish capital on Wednesday evening (local time), attention quickly shifted to the stands.
A male fan was seen down on one knee as he proposed to his partner.

She said yes, much to the delight of the fans at the Caja Mágica.
“It’s game, set and match in the stands,” a Tennis TV commentator said.
“That is so cool.
“That’s taken us all by surprise.”

Musetti was seen smiling on court as he watched the proposal unfold.
His opponent, de Minaur, appeared to have his game face on, although he will no doubt relate to the happy couple.
The Australian proposed to fellow tennis player Katie Boulter in late 2024.
Musetti went on to win the match 6-4 6-2 to progress to the quarter-finals of the clay tournament.
