Super risky Cavaliers trade idea lands team scoring, depth, picks, for star player

The offseason Cleveland Cavaliers rumors haven’t been all that exciting. After an incredibly successful regular season and a somewhat disappointing playoff run, nobody would blame them for running things back. One Cavaliers trade rumor that could have some steam is that the team might be willing to part with star point guard Darius Garland, especially after the announcement that Garland will miss the next four to five months with a toe surgery. We looked at a potential Garland trade idea by firing up the NBA trade machine and creating a possible proposal.

Our NBA trade machine Garland trade, looks like this:

Sacramento Kings receive: Darius Garland

Cavaliers receive: DeMar DeRozan, Malik Monk, first-round pick

One of the loudest Cavaliers trade rumors is that the Kings are interested in potentially going after Garland this offseason.

With Garland set to miss the beginning of next season (at a minimum), this Cavaliers trade idea is one they have to consider.

In Monk and DeRozan, they are getting two more scorers and ball handlers to take the offensive pressure off of Donovan Mitchell. Monk has proven that he can handle some point guard duties while Mitchell remains the team’s leading playmaker.

DeRozan, while definitely on the decline, is somehow still averaging over 20 points a game for his 12th straight season. He would be able to lead the Cavaliers’ second unit in scoring as well as close games as a go-to guy down the stretch.

Getting a first-round pick would just be the bonus on top. They could use it to add another piece to their championship-level roster or keep it as insurance for the future.

If a trade idea like this ever gets offered to the Cavaliers, although it will be hard to lose a homegrown star like Garland, they would need to pull the trigger.
