Suns shockingly predicted to hire ex-Milwaukee Bucks forward, NBA champion after firing Mike Budenholzer

With the dismissal of Mike Budenholzer, the Phoenix Suns need to find a new head coach to lead their team. While they could go the traditional avenue of hiring a head coach on the market, there are other options.

One of those other options presented by Sporting News’ Dan Treacy is to look at ex-Milwaukee Bucks forward and NBA champion Jared Dudley, who also spent some time with the Suns franchise. He’s been an assistant coach for the past few years under Jason Kidd, and has garnered respect in the NBA community.

“Dudley had two stints with the Suns as a player, spending a total of seven seasons in Phoenix, and he has earned respect as an assistant under Jason Kidd for the last four seasons in Dallas,” Treacy wrote. “Before the front office debacle this season, the Mavericks overachieved plenty under Kidd, reaching the NBA Finals just a year ago.”

Dudley only played one year with the Bucks, where he was a key contributor off the bench, which was his main role in his NBA career. He’s seen much more success as a coach with the Mavericks, making the playoffs three times out of four seasons, with a Finals appearance, a Conference Finals appearance, and making the Play-In Tournament this season.

Dudley would be an interesting pick, as he hasn’t been an assistant coach for that long, nor was he a stellar player in his career. However, due to his ties to the franchise, he might be the man who can fix their problems.
