Regis Le Bris has made a major decision on his future with Sunderland ahead of the club’s return to Premier League action.
On Monday (August 4), the 49-year-old pledged his commitment to The Black Cats as he penned a new deal until 2028.
Le Bris’ contract renewal will have been received very warmly by Sunderland supporters due to the fantastic turnaround the team endured in the Frenchman’s first year at the club.
After departing his position as Lorient boss at the end of the 2023/24 season, Le Bris took charge at the Stadium of Light and led Sunderland back up to the Premier League.
The team’s play-off final victory over Sheffield United in May secured a return to the English top flight after eight seasons away.
Sunderland finished 16th in the Championship the season before Le Bris arrived at the Stadium of Light and spent four seasons in League One between 2018-2022.

Le Bris’ reaction to signing a three-year contract extension
Speaking with the club on his decision to sign a new deal, Le Bris said: “The connection I have with the staff, players, and supporters has been natural, and we shared many great moments together.”
“The collective ambition is there to see and now, there is a desire to become stronger. I can feel the energy and intent to push forward, and we need that in the next challenges we will face.”
The manager’s contract renewal is the latest positive move Sunderland have made this summer as there has been plenty of activity in the transfer market.
10 new players have completed permanent moves to the Stadium of Light, including former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Granit Xhaka.
The Swiss international’s ÂŁ17.3m move to Sunderland came as a massive shock as he was a crucial player for his previous club in the past two seasons, but he was very keen to join Le Bris’s team.
Other notable additions Le Bris will have at his disposal in the Premier League this forthcoming season include Simon Adingra, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo and Chemsdine Talbi.
Also, Enzo Le Fee has joined on a permanent basis after spending the second half of last season with the club.
Sunderland supporters will be hoping the club’s positive momentum continues on the pitch in the months ahead. The Black Cats begin the season with a home fixture against West Ham United on August 16.
