Stephen Curry shares his thoughts on Kevin Durant’s Finals MVP’s

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry recently talked about the time he spent with Kevin Durant as teammates in Golden State, and was asked about his thoughts on the Finals MVP controversy.

Of course, Curry and Durant played a major role in two Warriors’ championships in back-to-back seasons, with Durant taking home the Finals MVP hardware both times. Previously, Andre Iguodala took home the award in 2015 for the Warriors.

Curry is more focused on team accomplishments than individual accolades

While in China, Curry was asked his feelings on being a unanimous MVP, but without a Finals MVP at the time. Instead of feeling guilty for himself, Curry praised his former teammate Durant, saying he deserved to take home the hardware.

“The idea of that being a conversation, I couldn’t run from it… because we had been to four straight Finals at that point, had won three out of four,” Curry said. “2018, I guess I was close. Had a bad Game 3. KD played unbelievable the entire time. It goes into that conversation, in the sense of, in that moment, if you’re playing for a Finals MVP, you’re probably not gonna get it done because you’ll get distracted. I’d rather have rings, obviously, and the opportunity to go get rings, but KD beyond well-deserved Finals MVP.”

Curry would eventually earn his Finals MVP in 2022 when the Warriors took down the Boston Celtics. For the series, Curry averaged 31.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists on his way to winning his fourth championship.
