Steelers wide receiver trade pitch adds $100 million missing piece for ridiculous price

The Pittsburgh Steelers should be keeping a close eye on the Washington Commanders and wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

The Steelers have a void at wide receiver after the George Pickens trade, and acquiring someone like McLaurin would be just what the doctor ordered.

Why would the Commanders trade McLaurin? Well, he’s unhappy with his contract and left the team during OTAs as a result. If the two sides can’t strike a deal, McLaurin could hold out, which may lead to a trade.

ML Football on X recently proposed an outlandish trade that would have Pittsburgh landing McLaurin for the ridiculous price of three draft picks, including one first-rounder.

Then, the Steelers turn around and sign McLaurin to a three-year, $100 million deal in the scenario.

  • Steelers receive: Terry McLaurin
  • Commanders receive: 2026 1st-round pick, 2026 3rd-round pick, 2026 5th-round pick

Adding McLaurin to the offense would give the Steelers the established target they need next to DK Metcalf.

The Commanders star has five-straight 1,000-yard seasons while overcoming some bad quarterback play before Jayden Daniels arrived in 2024. McLaurin can make plays all over the field and would create an elite one-two punch with Metcalf.

The problem with this proposal is the Steelers simply give up too much.

Granted, it will likely take an overpay to convince the Commanders to part ways with their top receiver, but including a first-round pick for McLaurin is too much from the get-go, especially when you consider that Pittsburgh would also have to extend him to a massive deal.

We could see the Steelers giving up a second-rounder and then some, but we have serious doubts about general manager Omar Khan parting with that much draft capital, even for a massive upgrade like McLaurin.
