The Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks have dropped their final injury reports ahead of their Week 2 game and four players are ruled out and one is doubtful between the two teams for Sunday.
The three players ruled out for Pittsburgh are cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (hamstring), safety DeShon Elliott (knee) and defensive lineman Derrick Harmon (knee). Head coach Mike Tomlin ruled out Harmon and Elliott early in the week but had left the door open for Porter Jr. to play. Clearly he wasn’t able to get ready in time.
Harmon suffered a knee injury in the final preseason game and hasn’t practiced since. Reports suggest he could return in Week 3, but it’s important to note the rookie didn’t practice all week.
Elliott is expected to miss multiple weeks with what is being described as an MCL sprain. Pittsburgh signed veteran safety Jabrill Peppers to help fill the void and strengthen their secondary overall.
“We have Jabrill Peppers in the building,” Tomlin said. “We’ll be signing Jabrill today and get him up to speed about what it is we’d ask him to do. Highly familiar with him, not only as his time as a Cleveland Brown, but scouted him heavily when he came out of Michigan. He’s a football player first, positional player second.”
On the bright side, the Steelers will see the return of outside linebacker Nick Herbig, who sat out last week’s game with a hamstring issue.
For the Seahawks, they have a pair of concerns in the secondary that will leave the unit short-handed.
Rookie safety Nick Emmanwori (concussion), who had been impressive during the offseason and in Week 1, has been ruled out. Fellow starter and cornerback Devon Witherspoon (knee) is doubtful, which means it’s highly unlikely he plays.
But there is some good news: linebacker Uchenna Nwosu will make his 2025 debut after being removed from the injury report on Friday following a full week of practice.
