Steelers urged to sign 70-catch WR to pair with DK Metcalf for Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers, for a little while, looked like they had two star receivers for Aaron Rodgers to throw to.

Then they traded George Pickens to the Cowboys.

That leaves DK Metcalf and a motley crew including the likes of Calvin Austin and Roman Wilson.

Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton suggests an easy remedy: Sign Keenan Allen, the veteran WR coming off a 70-catch season with the Chicago Bears.

Here’s how Moton explains it:

This offseason, they have added multiple veterans with decorated resumes, signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers and cornerback Darius Slay, and acquiring wideout DK Metcalf, cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith via trades.

The Steelers should make another move for a wide receiver to help Rodgers. Keenan Allen could fit within their receiver rotation.

Allen is capable of lining up on the perimeter or the inside, allowing him to coexist with Calvin Austin III, who made big plays out of the slot last season.

In 2024, Allen finished second on the Chicago Bears in catches (70) and receiving yards (744) and led the team in touchdown receptions (seven), showing he can still play at a high level.

With Metcalf and Austin as the big-play receivers, Allen would be the trusted chain-mover in the Steelers’ revamped passing attack.

Allen is one of the best route runners with some of the best hands in football, even still.

And you don’t get Rodgers without planning to have a big season in this very year. Whether or not Allen is useful down the road isn’t the point.

Get that guy on a one-year contract and get him to town soon. Pittsburgh has to maximize the present.
