Steelers trade pitch adds $68 million superstar receiver for Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to acquire another wide receiver before the 2025 NFL season, as the team has yet to fill the void left by George Pickens, who was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in May.

The free agent market is filled with veteran talent that can help Pittsburgh. However, Last Word on Sports’ Liam Rebellato believes the Steelers should try to trade for disgruntled Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin to pair with DK Metcalf.

“The Steelers have been aggressive this offseason and still lack a clear No. 2 receiver behind DK Metcalf. McLaurin’s proven production and steady presence could be exactly what Pittsburgh needs to round out its receiving group,” Rebellato wrote.

McLaurin is entering the final year of his deal and is seeking an extension from the Commanders. However, negotiations haven’t been going well, which caused the superstar receiver to skip mandatory minicamp in June.

If Washington can’t agree on a long-term deal with McLaurin, they could look to trade him. The Steelers would be a dream landing spot for the 29-year-old receiver, as McLaurin would form a dynamic duo with Metcalf and give quarterback Aaron Rodgers another electric receiving threat on the perimeter.

Trading for McLaurin will likely cost a Day 1 or high Day 2 pick, and he also needs a contract extension. Pittsburgh, who just made Metcalf the fourth-highest paid receiver in football this offseason, may not have the money to pay another receiver a top-of-the-market salary, but general manager Omar Khan should still look into a trade for McLaurin.

Though McLaurin would be an exhilarating addition to Arthur Smith’s offense, the Commanders would be foolish to move on from the Ohio State product. McLaurin formed a formidable connection with quarterback Jayden Daniels last season, and it would be criminal if Washington broke up that duo after just one year.
