The Pittsburgh Steelers were forced into a quarterback move.
Rookie QB Will Howard, the national champion from Ohio State, will miss time with a broken hand. That left an opening.
The Steelers filled it on Thursday by signing veteran Logan Woodside.
Woodside has familiarity with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, having played under him with both the Titans and the Falcons.
The right-handed Woodside is a 30-year old career backup. He was a seventh-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2018 NFL Draft.
He never actually got into a regular season game for the Bengals, though.

In 2020, Woodside appeared in six games for the Titans, going 1-for-3 passing for seven yards and rushing seven times for 10 yards.
In 2021, he took six kneel-downs as his entire work for Tennessee.
He went to the Falcons for 2022 and 2023, and in the latter season he had a six-yard run and was 3-for-4 passing for 27 yards.

Woodside returned to the Bengals as a free agent for the 2024 season and bounced back and forth between the active roster and practice squad.
Cincinnati signed him again for this offseason in April, but they released him on July 20.
That made him available when the Steelers needed an extra passer in camp.
It’ll be tough for him to stick around longer, but that’s the life of a journeyman backup. You take the chances as they come.
