Steelers draft prediction cuts ties with Aaron Rodgers, Will Howard for dual-threat quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers have lacked stability at quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement in 2022, and the team will likely have a new starter under center in 2026.

Aaron Rodgers is expected to retire after the 2025 campaign, meaning Pittsburgh will have to find a new starting quarterback next offseason. They could look to give Will Howard a chance, but the sixth-round pick out of Ohio State has an uphill battle to prove that he can be the long-term answer.

It’s time for the Steelers to select a signal-caller in the early rounds of the draft and find their potential franchise guy. Pro Football Network’s Joe DeLeone predicts Pittsburgh will use a Round 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Penn State quarterback Drew Allar.

“Allar would be a home run for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who need a gifted player to mold at QB,” DeLeone wrote.

Allar is entering his third season as Penn State’s starter, and if he puts together another efficient season, he should be near the top of the quarterback rankings in the 2026 class.

The Ohio native tossed 24 touchdowns to eight interceptions with a 66.5% completion rate in 2024 and has done a nice job taking care of the ball in his collegiate career, tossing just 10 interceptions in the last two seasons.

The Steelers, who could use an exciting player at the quarterback position, should look into selecting Allar next April and starting a new era of football in Pittsburgh.
