Las Vegas Raiders center Jackson Powers-Johnson recently made comments about Pittsburgh Steelers star Cam Hewyard, and Heyward has now responded.
The 2024 Raiders draft pick recently revealed that his “welcome to the NFL moment” came against Heyward, who beat him for a sack during the Steelers-Raiders Week 6 matchup last season.
And, in his comments, JPJ said that Heyward didn’t beat him on the play because the then-rookie actually beat himself.
“I’d say playing against Cam Heyward and giving up my first sack ever in my life,” Powers-Johnson said on Maxx Crosby’s podcast. “I would have to say that. He didn’t beat me, I beat myself, I overset. And he got me, and said some choice words after, and I really hope he comes back for another year. That’s all I’m going to say.”
After catching wind of Powers-Johnson’s comments, Heyward responded on his own podcast and proceeded to roast the young lineman.
“That wasn’t the only time he got beat, I’m going to be honest,” Heyward revealed. “I’m going to be honest too — this is the other thing — he’s saying this and we don’t even have him scheduled this year. That’s kind of funny.”
“It ain’t going to say that in the stat sheet, my dog. That’s on you,” Heyward added.
While Powers-Johnson has revenge on his mind, it might be a long time before he has a chance to get some, and it may never happen at all.
Barring a matchup in the playoffs, which is unlikely, the Raiders don’t play the Steelers until 2027, with that matchup taking place in Pittsburgh.
Adding to that, Heyward is 36 and his contract only runs through 2026, so he might retire before that 2027 matchup happens.
