Steelers and Eagles predicted to pull of blockbuster trade involving $112 million, 7-time Pro Bowler

The Pittsburgh Steelers have undergone some massive changes this offseason.

First, the team added star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in a massive trade to boost the receiver room. The team had been missing a true No. 1 receiver for several seasons, and that should now be taken care of.

After adding Metcalf, the team shipped fellow receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. Pickens is a talented receiver, but there were some character concerns that led to the team ultimately deciding to move on.

Then, after months of rumors, the team finally signed future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers to play quarterback in 2025. The addition of Rodgers should raise the team’s floor significantly, and he’ll have a solid offensive line and group of pass-catchers around him.

However, the biggest move of the offseason could still be yet to come. Star edge-rusher T.J. Watt has been holding out of minicamp due to a contract dispute, and the situation doesn’t appear close to a resolution.

Watt is one of the best edge-rushers in the league, and any team would love to have a player of his caliber should the Steelers make him available. Jonathan Adams of BetUS believes Watt could end up moving to the other side of Pennsylvania and join the Eagles.

Regarding that scenario, Adams offered the following:

As the Steelers are in a contract standoff with star pass rusher T.J. Watt, their Pennsylvania neighbors appear to have unlimited resources. There is a reason why the Eagles are tied for the best Super Bowl odds at +650.

Seems like the Eagles could over the Steelers a plethora of picks and young players to land Watt. The veteran’s saga continues to be worth monitoring at the NFL trade deadline.

As Adams mentioned, the Eagles would seemingly have plenty of resources to pull off a big trade like this. The Eagles have plenty of young talent and draft picks that could be included in a Watt trade.

Of course, Watt won’t be cheap. The defender earned his seventh-consecutive Pro Bowl berth in 2024 after collecting 61 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and 19 tackles for loss. Watt earned an elite 92.2 Pro Football Focus grade, which ranked third out of 211 qualified edge-rushers.

Watt has led the NFL in sacks three times and twice led in tackles for loss. The star defender is still just 30, which means he likely has several remaining years of quality play.

Watt is currently slated to hit free agency next offseason, so trading for the veteran would likely require an extension as well. The Eagles would likely have to do some maneuvering next offseason to fit Watt’s contract, but there’s no denying he would greatly elevate an already elite defense.
