The Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to have stacked the deck for Aaron Rodgers.
They traded for DK Metcalf to create a two-headed WR monster with George Pickens. They added a couple of running backs to join Jaylen Warren. This was a setup for Rodgers to succeed after signing a free agent contract.
Except the Steelers traded Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday for two future draft picks.
Those future picks aren’t doing Rodgers any good.

Social media was quick to speculate: What if Rodgers decides to retire?
With or without Pickens why would Aaron Rodgers come back to the nfl? Especially the afc north? They stand no chance at winning anything important and he’s going to get beat up in the most physical division of football for 17 weeks then retire looking like this guy pic.twitter.com/BrqBzfNl9E

If I’m Aaron Rodgers, I’d rather just retire than try to end my career on a better note with a likely bad Steelers offense. He’s a Hall of Famer no matter what, but is a shell of his former self and not gong to elevate anyone to a deep playoff run. Just retire and enjoy life.

That’s just a small sampling.
Reports earlier in the offseason indicated retirement was legitimately on the table for Rodgers, who will turn 42 in December.

He’s coming off a 5-12 season as the Jets starter after tearing his Achilles four plays in to the 2023 season.
Retirement would be a comfortable option, whereas joining the Steelers could be more filled with adversity.

Rodgers probably doesn’t want to go out with that 5-12 record, but who knows? It’s best not to guess what he’s going to do.
The Steelers still need him, but does Rodgers need a receiving corps without a clear WR2? Maybe he won’t be coming to town after all.
