Steelers $112 million All-Pro could land with Eagles in blockbuster move

The Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to sign superstar edge rusher T.J. Watt to a contract extension, but it doesn’t look like both sides are on the same page right now.

Watt posted a cryptic image on his Instagram story of him throwing up the peace sign while walking off the field, which many believe is a message that negotiations with the Steelers aren’t going well. Additionally, Steelers beat reporter Mark Kaboly stated to keep an eye on the situation.

“After talking to people, I’d keep an eye on this Steelers T.J. Watt contract situation moving forward a little more closely. “It doesn’t appear that the [Instagram] picture (below) he posted yesterday was just by chance. I’d imagine an extension is still going to eventually get done, but the price tag just might be a tad bit higher than some anticipated,” Kaboly wrote.”

With Watt being thrown into trade rumors due to his social media post and uncertainty surrounding his contract, BetOnline created some odds on where he’ll play next if he gets moved, and shockingly, the Philadelphia Eagles have the third-highest odds (+500) to the land the All-Pro pass rusher.

The New England Patriots (+300) and Seattle Seahawks (+400) were the only teams given better odds than Philadelphia.

The Eagles do have a need at edge rusher, as they lost Josh Sweat in free agency, and Brandon Graham is unlikely to return. Adding Watt to the defense would elevate Philadelphia’s defense to a new level and make Nick Sirianni’s squad the favorite to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

Trading for Watt will cost a premium package and contract extension for the future Hall of Fame defender, but the Eagles are in their Super Bowl window right now and have 20 draft picks over the next two years, meaning they have the firepower to potentially make a move.

However, we still believe that Watt will be with the Steelers in 2025 and for the long run. The 30-year-old is arguably the best defensive player in football and Pittsburgh would be foolish to place him on the market.
