The San Antonio Spurs have featured some of the best players in NBA history on their roster over time.
One of those guys could soon be playing for a Western Conference rival.
Chris Paul spent the 2024-25 season with the Spurs as a 39-year old point guard and leadership presence.
Now, NBA insider Marc Stein reports that Paul could be a free agent target for the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs need a temporary point guard replacement after Kyrie Irving tore his ACL in March.

Paul started all 82 games for the Spurs in 2024-25.
The veteran put up 8.8 points, 7.4 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game in about 28 minutes a night. He also shot 37.7 percent from 3-point range.
There was some question as to whether Paul might retire, but all his public comments suggest he’s sticking around to keep playing ball.
With his contract in San Antonio just a one-year deal, Paul just has to find his next home.
The good thing about CP3 for an acquiring team is you know what you’re getting at this point. He’s reliable and effective, even at his advanced age.
If the Mavs draft Cooper Flagg at No. 1 and don’t trade the pick, Paul could also be a strong mentor to the phenom from Duke.
Paul probably won’t be coming back to San Antonio, given that they have Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox and possibly a point guard from the No. 2 pick (Dylan Harper or V.J. Edgecombe).
He spent one season teaching Victor Wembanyama his ways, and next season, it could be Paul helping out Flagg.
