Some of the Red Sox most important players have arrived to Spring Training early

The Boston Red Sox have a few days before pitchers and catchers report (Feb. 12) to JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida for Spring Training and over a week until the rest of the team is supposed to be there (Feb. 17).

However, the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier recently reported that several Red Sox are already working out at the team’s facility before camp even starts.

According to Speier, Rafael Devers, Kristian Campbell, Masataka Yoshida, Brayan Bello, Brennan Bernardino, Garrett Crochet, Lucas Giolito, Romy Gonzalez, Justin Slaten and Greg Weissert were all seen at Fenway South on Friday.

This is an interesting mix of players who are all working to get better and prove something.

Devers is coming off an injury-riddled year that’s been followed by an offseason of rumors about him moving from third base to first base or designated hitter.

Campbell is looking to make his MLB debut after flying through the minors, and with the open spot at second base, he’ll be battling a few guys, including Gonzalez.

Bernardino, Slaten and Weissert are all trying to carve out roles for themselves in Boston’s bullpen in 2025. While Slaten’s spot as a high-leverage option seems pretty set, the other two will have to earn their keep.

Crochet, Giolito and Bello are expected to be in the starting rotation, but as Giolito noted earlier in the offseason, Boston’s pitching depth has improved over the last few months, so he’s willing to earn his spot.

Yoshida may have the widest range of outcomes in front of him. He could be the team’s starting designated hitter and hold down that position for the entire year, or he could be moved (DFA’d or traded) before the start of the year.

It’s great to see all of these guys working together early. This is a great time for them to build that bond and chemistry, so when they get on the field when the games really matter, everything can be as smooth as possible.
