Sol Campbell warns Arsenal of summer transfer decisions that could lead to key defender’s exit

Arsenal are heading towards a big summer transfer window and as Mikel Arteta suggested the fans can expect some big transfer dealings for the North London outfit.

The Gunners have also appointed new sporting director, Andrea Berta, to help them in the upcoming transfer window as they aim to win the Premier League crown in the recent future.

Amid all the high claims, former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell feels that a poor transfer window for the Gunners may tempt William Saliba to move from North London.

The Frenchman, who joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne at the tender age of 18 back in 2019, has developed into one of the best defenders in Europe.

Campbell feels Saliba’s future depends on Berta’s performance at the summer transfer window. He believes that the Frenchman is nearing his prime and would want to play for a team that allows him to win trophies.

While Saliba has shared his love for representing Arsenal recently, there were some rumours of Real Madrid being interested in the 24-year-old. The Gunners would want to be assured with their defender’s future and also with their transfers in the recent window.

‘Where Arsenal are right now, and with where they want to get to, they need to try and pin him down to a new deal sooner rather than later. That’s key,” Campbell told Metro

“Saliba could well be keeping his options open and waiting to see what players the club bring in in the summer. I think that’s it, really.”

“He’ll assess the type of players that Arsenal bring in and hopefully think, ‘Right, I’ve got some help now up front and in other places’ and be happy to sign a deal,” he continued.

William Saliba’s stats for the 2024/25 season: Matches, goals, cleansheets, records

After joining Arsenal in 2019, Saliba spent multiple loan stints in Ligue 1 before cementing his spot in the Arsenal roster. However, since 2022, he has become a household name for the North London faithful.

He has been a pivotal player for Arteta, and his partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes is one of the best, not only in the Premier League but also in the entire Europe. Saliba has only missed two games this season, which makes him even more dependable.

Arsenal’s centre-back pairing have started 26 Premier League games this season at the heart of Arsenal’s defense. The duo have experienced just three league defeats when they have started together.

Overall, Saliba has featured in 40 matches this season across competitions, 28 of them have come in the Premier League. He has scored two goals while maintaining 11 cleansheets.

The French international is a big reason why Arsenal have conceded the least number of goals this season in the Premier League.Saliba has also started seven of Arsenal’s 10 matches in the Champions League, whilst keeping four cleansheets.
