Simone Inzaghi ‘holds talks’ over bold Premier League switch after Champions League exit

Simone Inzaghi suffered a second UEFA Champions League final defeat as Inter Milan boss as his team were blown apart by Paris Saint-Germain.

Just over a week after seeing the domestic title wrestled away from them by Napoli, Inzaghi’s charges were dismantled by the rampant Parisians at the Allianz Arena, on May 31.

The experience and grit of Inter Milan was Inzaghi’s best chance of banishing the ghost of their 2023 final loss to Manchester City – but it was to be Luis Enrique’s night in Bavaria.

Questions over Inzaghi’s future at the San Siro instantly emerged at the final whistle and his next step remains unclear ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Inzaghi has a short turnaround ahead of the flight to the USA with Inter Milan starting their campaign against Monterrey on June 18.

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan contract, Premier League latest

Inzaghi’s current contract runs until June 2026 and club president Giuseppe Marotta confirmed after the final that he’s keen for the former striker to stay.

“This defeat will not have an impact. Inzaghi has a contract for another year and we’ve already decided to meet with him this week,” as per quotes from ESPN.

“Almost all the credit for this positive cycle is due to his professionalism and ability. If he wants to continue, we are happy.

“We’re meeting with the coach because this club is not used to letting a manager go into the final year of his contract. There’s no revolution underway. We want to hear what he has to say and we’re proud and honoured to continue with him.”

Marotta’s comments hint at his awareness of clubs being interested in luring Inzaghi away and the Premier League could be his next destination.

Inzaghi addressed questions on his future at the final – but insisted it was not the right time to discuss it – with reports from TalkSPORT claiming the 49-year-old has already spoken to Newcastle United and Tottenham over moves.

A switch to Newcastle looks less likely, with the Magpies happy to give Eddie Howe a chance following his qualification for the Champions League, but Spurs are a different story.

Ange Postecoglou is under severe pressure – despite winning the Europa League – and leading the club back to the UCL.

Inzaghi’s current preference is to stay for another year, but if Spurs sack Postecoglou, that could change.

The Daily Telegraph indicate Postecoglou is due for showdown talks with Daniel Levy in the coming days and that will impact whether Inzaghi flies out with the Inter Milan squad.
