Shohei Ohtani final stats: Dodgers star allows four runs, has quiet offensive night in World Series Game 4 loss

JUMP TO:

Shohei Ohtani is, in fact, human.

After reaching base nine times in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 18-inning Game 3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, fatigue might have played a role in a rockier performance by the two-way star in a 6-2 Game 4 loss.

Ohtani looked sharp for much of the night on the mound, but a two-run home run by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. flipped the game in the third inning. After settling down and pitching into the seventh inning, it all started to unravel for Ohtani. The reigning MVP allowed back-to-back hits before being removed, setting the stage for a four-run rally by the Blue Jays that would effectively put the game out of reach for the Dodgers.

At the plate, Ohtani reached base for the 11th consecutive plate appearance with a first inning walk but could not get back on the basepaths. Ohtani had his first hitless game since Game 1 of the NLCS, striking out twice against Shane Bieber.

Ohtani remains a contender for World Series MVP, but his final line of four earned runs over six innings didn’t exactly boost his chances. To even have that conversation, the Dodgers still need two more wins — including at least one more in Toronto, where the series is now guaranteed to go for a Game 6.

The Sporting News tracked Shohei Ohtani’s start and overall stats from Game 4 of the World Series against the Blue Jays. Check out the numbers and key moments below.

Shohei Ohtani updates, highlights from Dodgers vs. Blue Jays Game 4

All times ET.

10:38 p.m. — Ohtani ends a quiet seventh inning for the Dodgers with a groundout. He’s 0-3 with a walk tonight.

10:15 p.m. — Ohtani is charged with two more runs as both baserunners wind up scoring for the Blue Jays in the seventh inning. After a dominant start in the NLCS, Ohtani finishes with four earned runs allowed in six innings of work. He walked one and struck out six.

10:00 p.m. — Ohtani hasn’t recorded an out in the seventh inning since 2023, and that’s going to remain true: he’s coming out after giving up two hard hits, setting up the Blue Jays with runners on second and third base. His night will continue as a designated hitter.

9:46 p.m. — Ohtani works a clean sixth inning and is sitting at 90 pitches with the Dodgers trailing by one.

9:38 p.m. — Bieber continues to impress against Ohtani, striking him out again.

9:30 p.m. — Ohtani allows a second hit to Lukes, but this time, he gets Guerrero out on a line drive to centerfield. He’s through five on 76 pitches and will have at least one more inning here.

9:13 p.m. — Ohtani rebounds in the fourth inning by striking out the side. That’ll work. He’s at 59 pitches through four and should be in line to complete at least six innings if he avoids major trouble.

9:03 p.m. — Shane Bieber strikes out Ohtani in their second meeting of the night. That ends Ohtani’s streak of consecutive plate appearances reaching base.

8:55 p.m. — This time, Guerrero gets to Ohtani. He blasts a two-run home run and turns a Dodgers lead into a Dodgers deficit, blemishing Ohtani’s start here in the third inning.

8:34 p.m. — Ohtani makes rapid work of the Blue Jays in the second with three outs on seven pitches. He’s through two scoreless.

8:24 p.m. — What else is new? Ohtani works a walk, but not an intentional one.

8:20 p.m. — Ohtani works around the trouble by getting Alejandro Kirk to pop out.

8:18 p.m. — The Blue Jays are attempting to put together a two-out rally after a walk by Bo Bichette and a single by Addison Barger.

8:12 p.m. — Ohtani strikes out Vladimir Guerrero Jr. after getting Nathan Lukes to pop out in foul territory. A quick start after a marathon last night.

8:00 p.m. — Ohtani is minutes away from getting started. It’ll be his first career World Series start and second postseason start at home.

7:00 p.m. — Ohtani is batting leadoff, as usual, after reaching base nine times in Game 3. How many intentional walks will he receive tonight?

6:50 p.m. — At least for now, Ohtani will face a Blue Jays lineup minus George Springer.

Is Shohei Ohtani pitching tonight?

Ohtani is making his third career postseason start and first World Series start in Game 4 of the World Series. The three-time MVP made his first-ever playoff start against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the NLDS, allowing three earned runs but striking out nine batters in a Dodgers win, and he shut down the Brewers with 10 strikeouts over six shutout innings in Game 4 of the NLCS.

It’s been 13 days since Ohtani’s last start, so he is well-rested coming into Game 4 of the NLCS.
