The Pittsburgh Steelers offense will look a lot different in 2025, as the team will field a new starting quarterback and running back, and also added to the wide receiver room by trading for DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks.
However, one position that hasn’t gone through much change this offseason in Pittsburgh is tight end. Pat Freiermuth is expected to return as the starter, with Darnell Washington, Connor Heyward, and Donald Parham Jr. serving as depth.
Though the Steelers could be comfortable with Freiermuth as the starter, Pro Football Network’s Sterling Xie believes the team is a top landing spot for Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts.
“The Steelers have a deep tight end room, but Pitts’ move tight end skill set would give them a different look than what Pat Freiermuth or Darnell Washington provide,” Xie wrote.
Atlanta could look to trade Pitts, as the 24-year-old is set to hit free agency next offseason and hasn’t lived up to lofty expectations after being taken with the No.4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Pitts posted a 1,000-yard campaign during his rookie campaign but hasn’t reached that level of production since. He tallied 602 yards and four touchdowns on 47 receptions in 17 games in 2024.

If the Falcons decide to trade Pitts, the Steelers should see how much it would cost to acquire him. The former Florida Gator could revive his career and finally reach his full potential with a change of scenery, and a duo of Freiermuth and Pitts would be electric.
Pittsburgh must have a more versatile and effective offensive attack in 2025 to make a run in the AFC. Though the quarterback situation is still unsolved, general manager Omar Khan shouldn’t stop adding playmakers, and he should look into the possibility of trading for Kyle Pitts and see if he can finally have a breakout season.
