Severity of Kevin De Bruyne’s latest injury revealed

Kevin De Bruyne is set to spend more time on the sidelines as a result of picking up a fresh injury in Napoli’s 3-1 victory against Inter Milan on Saturday (October 25).

The summer signing from Manchester City sustained a right thigh problem in the Serie A contest right after giving Antonio Conte’s side a first-half lead from the penalty spot.

The Belgian was in heavy discomfort immediately after converting the spot-kick past Vanja Milinković-Savić and was in tears as his teammates tried to comfort him.

The midfielder subsequently had to be replaced by Mathias Olivera as he could not continue.

De Bruyne had registered four goals and two assists in a Napoli shirt prior to going down in this per weekend’s fixture.

How long will De Bruyne be on the sidelines for?

Following Saturday’s match injury, De Bruyne underwent scans to gauge the severity of his injury.

Per Sky in Italy, the scan results have confirmed that the midfielder suffered a high-grade tear on his right thigh and will now miss many months of action for Napoli and Belgium.

Napoli are yet to offer a timeline on De Bruyne’s return, but he will miss upcoming games domestically and in Europe.

Conte’s men are aiming to defend their Serie A crown and currently sit top of the league table, ahead of AS Roma on goal difference.

However, the team has gotten off to a slow start in this season’s Champions League group phase, as they sit in 24th place, having lost two of their opening three fixtures.

Ultimately, this setback is a massive shame for De Bruyne as he has endured his fair share of injuries in recent seasons, which caused him to miss plenty of matches during his final years in a City shirt.
