Series: Vegas Golden Knights offseason recap

In this series, we take a look at each team and see what they’ve done over the offseason. Next up is the Vegas Golden Knights.

Key additions: Mitch Marner, Colton Sissons, Jeremy Lauzon, Jaycob Megna, Cole Reinhardt, Dylan Coghlan

The Golden Knights caught the biggest fish of the offseason Mitch Marner in a sign and trade deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 100 point producer makes the rich even richer in Vegas as their forward core should be amongst the top of the league in production. Vegas also added a few notable depth pieces, including Colton Sissons and Jeremy Lauzon.

Key subtractions: Nicolas Roy, Nicolas Hague, Tanner Pearson, Victor Olofsson, Alex Pietrangelo, Robert Hagg, Ilya Samsonov

The Knights had to sacrifice Nicolas Roy in order to acquire the rights to Mitch Marner, but that is a deal you’ll take in a heartbeat. Vegas have lost some more solid middle of the lineup players such as Nicolas Hague, Tanner Pearson and Victor Olofsson. They have moved on from goaltender Ilya Samsonov after his struggles with the club. Top defenseman Alex Pietrangelo will be stepping away from the game of hockey due to injury.

Highest draft pick: Jakob Ihs Wozniak, 55th overall

Salary cap space: -$7.6 million

Pietrangelo’s term should come off the books when he’s placed on LTIR, a situation Vegas has grown used to handling.

Staff: Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon will unsurprisingly bring back the same staff next season. Bruce Cassidy has been behind the Knights bench for 3 seasons, leading the club to a Stanley Cup ring in 2023.

Other: Jack Eichel is now eligible for a contract extension as this will be the last year of his current deal. It will be interesting to see how Vegas handles that given their salary situation.
