In this series, we take a look at each team and see what they’ve done over the offseason. Next up is the Dallas Stars.
Key additions: Radek Faksa
Faksa returns to the Stars after a year away. The Stars have not focused on adding much, as they have prioritized getting big contract extensions done that have taken up all their available cap space. They have locked up Matt Duchene and Jamie Benn among others.
Key subtractions: Cody Ceci, Mikael Granlund, Evgeni Dadonov
The Stars have lost a few key cogs in each position. 2 of their 3 notable losses were trade deadline rentals to be fair, so they’ve been able to keep the core group together for now.
Highest draft pick: Cameron Schmidt, 94th overall
Salary cap space: -$1.7 million
Staff: The Dallas Stars brought in a new coaching staff having fired former coach Pete DeBoer after his controversial comments regarding the play of starting goalie Jake Oettinger in the western conference finals. Glen Gulutzan will be his replacement, having previously been an assistant coach with the Edmonton Oilers the past 7 seasons. He was last an NHL head coach with the Calgary Flames in 2018. He returns to a Dallas club he coached for two seasons from 2011-2013.
Other: Question marks continue to persists over the future of Jason Robertson with the club. With the fickle situation regarding the team’s salary cap dilemma, they may have no choice but to trade him if they can’t get an extension done that fits their number via Jeff Marek.
