In this series, we take a look at each team and see what they’ve done over the offseason. Next up is the Boston Bruins
Key additions: Viktor Arvidsson, Tanner Jeannot, Michael Eyssimont, Sean Kuraly, Alex Steeves, Jordan Harris, Victor Soderstrom
The Bruins added some much needed depth pieces to a roster that was in need of it. However, no real needle movers were added to help Pasta up front.
Key subtractions: Cole Koepke, Ian Mitchell, Parker Wotherspoon, Vinni Lettieri
The Bruins did not have much to lose after shipping off much of their major pieces at last years trade deadline, including franchise legend Brad Marchand.
Highest draft pick: James Hagens, 7th overall
Salary Cap space: $2 million
Staff: The Bruins hired Marco Sturm to replace former interim coach Joe Sacco, who was brought on as an assistant coach for the New York Rangers. Sturm had been with the LA Kings organization the past 7 years, having been an assistant coach for the club and head coach for their AHL affiliate Ontario Reign. Sturm played for the Bruins for 5 years during his 938 game NHL career.
Other: Overall, the Bruins are clearly a team that is entering a retool as their offseason moves suggest. This comes after a disappointing season that resulted in a last place finish in the Atlantic Division and first time missing the playoffs since 2016. It was their worst year since 2006-2007 in terms of win percentage. However, a promising draft and the fact they still have core pieces at each position leaves hope for the future.
