In this series, we take a look at each team and see what they’ve done over the offseason. First up is the Anaheim Ducks.
Key additions: Mikael Granlund, Chris Kreider, Ryan Poehling, Petr Mrazek, Ville Husso
The Ducks have added a fair amount of veteran support to help supplement a young up and coming roster. The vets will be counted on to help bring this team out of the rebuild. The Ducks are currently on a 7 year playoff drought.
Key subtractions: Trevor Zegras, John Gibson, Isac Lundestrom, Carey Terrance
The Ducks finally parted ways with John Gibson, who had spent his entire career as a Duck to this point. They also parted with Trevor Zegras who had long been on the trade block as well.
Highest draft pick: Roger McQueen, 10th overall
Salary Cap space: $28.98 million
Staff: Hired Joel Quenneville as their new head coach, replacing the fired Greg Cronin. Quenneville has decades of coaching experience, having won 3 Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks throughout the 2010s. He also won the Jack Adams as coach of the year with the St. Louis Blues in 2000. He is the 2nd winningest NHL coach of all time. Joel was recently reinstated to the NHL, having been out of the gig since early on in the 21-22 season having last coached for the Florida Panthers.
Other: The Ducks still have some business to take care of over the summer, particularly with forward Mason McTavish who is due a new deal. Do the Ducks lock him up or does he go on the move elsewhere?
