Serie A giants eyeing a January move for Chelsea star

Chelsea have had a rocky start to the 2025/26 season as they won some extremely tough games whereas dropped points in games where they should have won.

The Blues recently suffered a 2-1 defeat against newly promoted Sunderland in the Premier League as they conceded a late goal because of their lackluster defending.

Enzo Maresca’s men are now in ninth position in the Premier League points table mainly due to their underwhelming defense and disciplinary issues.

Amidst all of this uncertainty around Chelsea, one of their players may move out of Stamford Bridge as soon as in the January window.

According to reports via Calciomercato, Juventus are considering a January swoop for Malo Gusto as they need to strengthen their right flank.

The Bianconeri are desperately looking to sign a right-back in the winter transfer window and one of their primary targets for that position happens to Atletico Madrid’s Nahuel Molina.

However, if they fail to secure the Argentine defender, then they may turn to the 22-year-old Frenchman.

Why are Juventus targetting Chelsea’s Gusto?

Gusto established himself in Lyon and moved to Chelsea in January 2023 for a transfer fee of €30m ($35m) plus €5m in bonuses.

He was loaned back to Lyon for the remainder of the 2022/23 season and after that he moved to West London to join the Blues.

The 22-year-old has developed into a crucial player for Maresca as he adjusted to life at Stamford Bridge very quickly.

He cemented his place in the team mainly due to uncertainties over Reece James’ injury issues and overall, the Frenchman did a more than decent job replacing the Englishman at right-back.

However, with James’ return to fitness, Gusto’s playing time has gone down drastically and that is something that may allow him to force out a move from Chelsea.

Gusto has been occasionally used as a makeshift midfielder by Maresca as James continue to be his preference at right-back.

Considering his pace, attacking instincts and crossing, Juve are plotting a move for the Frenchman as he is a perfect fit in Igor Tudor’s system. He is also extremely versatile and could prove to be a handy option in midfield.

Therefore, it remains to be seen if Juventus eventually makes the move in January or not and whether Gusto pushes for a move out of Chelsea citing playing time issues.
