Seahawks predicted to make blockbuster draft trade for 3-time Pro Bowl guard

After finishing their 2024 season with a 10-7 record, in second place in the NFC West (behind the Los Angeles Rams) and outside of the playoffs, the Seattle Seahawks had a lot of questions to answer this offseason.

While they’ve brought in former first-round pick Sam Darnold to be their next starting quarterback, they still need to find some big bodies to put in front of him to give him some time to throw.

To this point, Seattle has let offensive tackle Stone Forsythe and guard Laken Tomlinson sign with the New York Giants and Houston Texans, respectively, while offensive tackles Jason Peters and George Fant remain unsigned on the market after playing for the team in 2024.

Their only offensive line signing to this point has been guard Josh Jones, who played just 4.1% of the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive snaps last year. There’s still time, and with the draft right around the corner, there are multiple ways they can address this need.

In a recent trade-filled mock draft, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell had the Seahawks sending their first-round pick (No. 18 overall) to the Cleveland Browns. In return, Seattle would get a second-round pick (No. 33), a third-round pick (No. 67) and guard Wyatt Teller.

Teller, 30, played collegiately at Virginia Tech from 2013-17, earning All-ACC honors in his final year with the Hokies.

The Buffalo Bills selected Teller in the fifth round (No. 166 overall) of the 2018 NFL draft, making him a backup to start his rookie year but then giving him the starting left guard role for the final seven games of the year.

During roster cuts in 2019, Buffalo sent Teller and a seventh-round pick to Cleveland for fifth- and sixth-round picks in the 2020 draft. Over the last six years, he’s appeared in 88 games, starting 81 for the Browns on the right side.

Pro Football Focus gave Teller a 62.6 overall grade for his performance in 13 games last season, ranking him 63rd out of 135 qualified NFL guards. He also earned a 63.1 pass-blocking grade (No. 65) and a 61.6 run-blocking grade (No. 69).

Teller could slide in and start over Anthony Bradford at right guard for Seattle in 2025, or he could move back to his original left guard spot and fill the hole left by Tomlinson’s departure.

Either way, the Seahawks need to address their offensive line before the start of the season, and there won’t be many better veteran options at this point in the year than Teller.
