Despite posting a disappointing 2024 season, Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker received some recognition in ESPN’s annual NFL running back rankings.
Walker didn’t appear on the list, but did receive some votes from NFL coaches, executives, and scouts. The 24-year-old appeared as an honorable mention in the rankings in 2023 and 2024.
Walker totaled 1,050 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in his rookie campaign in 2022, and followed that up with 905 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 2023.
2024 wasn’t the strongest year for Walker, as he missed six games due to injury and tallied just 573 rushing yards on 3.7 yards per carry. He was still able to post nearly 900 scrimmage yards and eight total touchdowns, but the drop in efficiency was uninspiring.
Entering a contract year in 2025, Walker has a lot of work to do to prove that he deserves a second contract.
Seattle already has a potential replacement on the roster for the Michigan State product in Zach Charbonnet, who was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft and outplayed Walker at times in limited snaps last season.
For Walker to receive a new deal from the Seahawks, he’ll need to be more efficient in 2025 and become the engine of an offense that lost a few key pieces this offseason, including wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, and quarterback Geno Smith, who was replaced by Sam Darnold.
Though Walker underwhelmed in 2024, the former second-round pick’s talent is undeniable, and a bounce-back campaign in 2025 is very much in the picture.
