Scottie Scheffler’s Masters chip-in was correctly foreshadowed by Jim Nantz

Jim Nantz called the shot before it happened.

“He’s chipped in here before,” the play-by-play man said as Scottie Scheffler stood over a shot from just off the No. 12 green at Augusta National. “I’m sure that’s not lost on him, either.”

And then there rolled Scheffler’s chip shot, straight into the cup.

“Oh my goodness, he did it,” Nantz proclaimed.

It was a crucial birdie for the defending Masters champion to get to 5-under through the tournament, which at the time put him three shots behind the leader Justin Rose.

“Could’ve been a 5, maybe even more, walks away with a 2,” Nantz said. “… There are years you see something happen on a Friday and you just know on Sunday, you’re going to be reflecting on its importance.”

Scheffler hit his tee shot into the bushes behind the green at No. 12 but it somehow bounced out to set up his chip shot.

And with the way Scheffler is perceived in modern golf, with just a slightly less than Tiger level of inevitability, breaks like that sure seem like they’ll go a long way.

Expect Scheffler to keep riding the positive wave all the way to deep contention on Sunday.
