Scottie Scheffler majors timeline: Breaking down last major wins and complete history of finishes

The best golfer in the entire world is Scottie Scheffler. You don’t need the OWGR to tell you that.

To be considered the best in the world at golf, you not only have to have consistent top-tier finishes at major events, but you also have to have respectable finishes at the other Tour events in between.

Scheffler was already a household name in 2024, but became a man of the people when he was arrested ahead of that year’s PGA Championship due to a miscommunication while driving. He was released in time to make a delayed tee time, and despite that distraction, finished tied for eighth. Many golf fans ran away with the “Free Scottie Scheffler” memes, and he has become an icon of the sport.

Here is a look at how Scottie Scheffler has done at the four golf majors in his career.

Has Scottie Scheffler won a major?

Yes! Scheffler won his first major at the 2022 Masters. He donned the iconic green jacket and decided that one wasn’t enough. Scheffler also won the 2024 Masters, becoming the 18th golfer in history to ever win at Augusta more than once.

Scottie Scheffler Masters history

Year Finish Course
2020 T19 Augusta National
2021 T18 Augusta National
2022 1 Augusta National
2023 T10 Augusta National
2024 1 Augusta National
2025 4 Augusta National

Scheffler’s first career major was in 2016, but he didn’t find his way to the Masters until 2020. He finished tied for 19th and then tied for 18th the following year, before earning his first green jacket in 2022. His 10-under was good enough to edge out runner-up Rory McIlroy by three strokes. When Scheffler won in 2024, it was with an 11-under and a four-stroke lead over runner-up Ludvig Aberg.

Scheffler has done relatively well at the PGA Championship. Unlike the Masters, this major rotates locations each year, but that hasn’t thrown Scheffler off much. Of the six PGA Championships he has made, Scheffler has only missed the cut once. Of the four that he made the cut, he has finished in the top-10 of the leaderboard.

If there were a major that has been Scheffler’s kryptonite so far in his career, it would be the U.S. Open. He has finished tied for second and in third place, but in his limited major experience, he has missed the cut more at the U.S. Open than in the other tournaments. His most recent performance at the 2024 U.S. Open was one of the worst in his career, finishing tied for 41st.

The Open Championship wasn’t held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Scheffler has the least experience in this major and has had decent finishes, but not great ones. The courses in Europe tend to favor a different golf game than the ones in the U.S., so this could be the one that ends up eluding Scheffler if he ever gets close to the career grand slam.
