It takes quite the person to pull off the nickname Sauce.
That’s what the New York Jets have in the form of cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Gardner earned a new extension this offseason, a big contract that will keep him with the Jets for years to come.
His nickname isn’t going anywhere, either.

What is Sauce Gardner’s full name?
Sauce Gardner’s full name is Ahmad Rahmad Gardner.
How did Sauce Gardner get his nickname?
Sauce Gardner got his nickname when he was six years old.
Gardner made a sweet play, and his coach called him “A1 Sauce Sweet Feet Gardner.”
The “Sauce” part stuck.
Gardner has spoken positively about how he embraces the nickname on the field:
“My personal meaning is a level of confidence. When I’m on and off the field, I make sure I’ve got the sauce. That just keeps me going,” Gardner said. “When I’m in my little calm mood, it’s just me being Ahmad. The Sauce is within me, so I’m always Sauce. I have to know when to flip the switch up and turn the switch off.”
The Jets are glad he’s figured out how to flip that switch and be Sauce when he needs to.
