San Fransisco Giants linked to Orioles’ Adley Rutschman in offseason speculation

There is a very good chance that the Baltimore Orioles will decide to trade catcher Adley Rutschman this upcoming offseason. This comes after the Orioles signed catcher Samuel Basallo to an eight-year $67 million contract extension.

There is no doubt that there will be a bunch of teams that have a lot to offer for Rutschman. He is 27 years old and has two years remaining on his contract. He is a former number one overall pick.

San Francisco Giants have been named a potential landing spot for Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman.

Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report listed 10 potential fits for the Orioles catcher to be traded to in the offseason. The number one team Rymer had on his list to be traded to is the San Francisco Giants. This does not feel like a surprise because Buster Posey is the Giants’ front office, and he won three World Series titles as a catcher for the franchise.

Rymer said about San Francisco potentially making a trade for Rutschman this offseason,

“There isn’t a better defensive catcher in MLB than Patrick Bailey. He has above-average ranks across the board, though he is especially adept at framing.

It’s too bad that he can’t hit a lick, and it’s not as if his bat is trending upward. He’s indeed gotten even worse since breaking in with a .644 OPS in 2023, going down to .637 last year and .536 this year.

Though not the reason, this is certainly reason the Giants have struggled to score runs in 2025. Fixing this must be a priority for president of baseball operations Buster Posey, and he should know that it isn’t easy to lure free-agent hitters to Oracle Park.”

He has only played in 85 games for Baltimore this season. Rutschman has a .227 batting average with nine home runs and 29 RBIs, along with a .310 on-base percentage. He could also potentially benefit from a fresh start elsewhere. Rutschman is still young enough to be a very effective catcher in the MLB. That said, Basallo may have more upside at this point for the Orioles, and a potential start with San Francisco for Rutschman might be good for him.
