Ryder Cup team projections 2025: Updated standings, points for USA, Europe ahead of British Open

With golf’s major season about to wrap up, Ryder Cup season is just around the corner.

Team Europe is coming off a commanding victory over Team USA in 2023, when the Europeans defended home soil in Italy. Now, it’s Team USA’s turn to host the event, as the rivalry heads to New York to play the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

Luke Donald is back for a second go-round as Team Europe’s captain following his victory two years ago, while Keegan Bradley will lead Team USA. However, Bradley is still in play for a playing spot, an interesting quirk in this year’s competition.

While both teams’ Ryder Cup standings have taken shape, the British Open represents the final opportunity for golfers to gain big points and potentially secure a spot on their squads. Only two players have clinched positions in the 2025 Ryder Cup, so there is still plenty to decide.

Here’s a look at where the Ryder Cup standings are entering the Open Championship.

Rank Golfer Points
17. Cameron Young 4,413.64
22. Wyndham Clark 3,888.16
26. Jordan Spieth 3,447.74
36. Patrick Reed 2,815.67
72. Brooks Koepka 906.25

Scottie Scheffler is the only American golfer to have clinched a spot on the team already, as he is over 15,000 points ahead of second place.

Of the other projected automatic qualifiers, Spaun made the jump to third thanks to his U.S. Open victory. Schauffele and Thomas are Ryder Cup veterans who should make the team one way or another, while Henley is quietly one of the more consistent performers on the PGA Tour. Finally, Bryson DeChambeau’s strong major performances mean he will likely be back on the team after missing the Cup in 2023.

The next six players on the team will be chosen by captain Keegan Bradley. Collin Morikawa dropped out of the top six when Spaun jumped in, but he’s still on track to make the team. The No. 8-ranked player is 29-year-old Ben Griffin, who has two wins this year to put himself in position to play in his first Ryder Cup.

Perhaps the most fascinating storyline will be Bradley himself, as the Team USA captain could also be a player at Bethpage. If he wasn’t captain, Bradley’s spot on the team would be pretty secure considering he has Ryder Cup experience.

Other interesting names include Patrick Cantlay, who’s outside of the top 12 but is an experienced player who could take a spot. Cam Young, on the other hand, was the highest-ranked player not chosen in 2023 and could still make the team despite being ranked No. 17.

Jordan Spieth is the biggest name out of the field, but he has struggled mightily this year, but his experience means he’s always a potential option. Patrick Reed has played well on the LIV Tour and in the majors this year and could crash the Team USA party.

Finally, Brooks Koepka’s poor year has pretty much eliminated him from contention.

Projected Captain’s picks

  • Collin Morikawa
  • Ben Griffin
  • Keegan Bradley
  • Harris English
  • Patrick Cantlay
  • Cameron Young

Team Europe Standings

Just like with Team USA, the top six players automatically clinch a spot on Team Europe.

Rank Golfer Points
1. Rory McIlroy* 3,311.95
2. Tommy Fleetwood 1,251.83
3. Robert McIntyre 1,216.61
4. Tyrell Hatton 1,216.55
5. Sepp Straka 1,206.33
6. Shane Lowry 1,202.11
7. Rasmus Hojgaard 1,072.33
8. Justin Rose 956.84
9. Ludvig Aberg 954.33
10. Viktor Hovland 917.81
11. Thomas Detry 754.29
12. Matt Wallace 726.77
13. Jordan Smith 666.29
14. Niklas Norgaard 634.43
15. Aaron Rai 596.86

Other notables:

Rank Golfer Points
20. Jon Rahm 544.89
22. Matt Fitzpatrick 523.52
30. Nicolai Hojgaard 460.96

Like Scheffler, Rory McIlroy has qualified for a Ryder Cup spot after his incredibly successful 2025 that included a Masters win.

Golfers 2-6 on Team Europe are all within 100 points of each other, as Tommy Fleetwood and Robert McIntyre have both been consistent performers this year. Sepp Straka is a two-time PGA Tour champion in 2025, which should secure his spot, and Shane Lowry is a Ryder Cup veteran and one of the biggest names on the team.

Tyrell Hatton is an interesting option, as the LIV golfer has been very successful in majors this year, but no LIV player participated for Team Europe in 2023. However, Hatton appears ready to break onto the team this time around.

Golfers 7-10 on Team Europe are good bets to be Luke Donald’s captain’s picks. Rasmus Hojgaard should make his first Ryder Cup team this year, while Justin Rose is the most experienced player on the roster and was a huge part of the 2023 win.

Aberg and Hovland are both very inconsistent players, but their upsides should get them spots on the team. Both players were members of the 2023 Team Europe squad.

With two spots left, one will likely go to Jon Rahm, who is ranked just No. 20 since LIV tournaments don’t count toward the Ryder Cup standings. However, his pedigree should guarantee him a roster spot barring a surprise.

The final spot will likely come down to players ranked between 11 and 15, with Matt Fitzpatrick and Nicolai Hojgaard being the biggest names who could also make a jump.

Projected Captain’s picks

  • Rasmus Hojgaard
  • Justin Rose
  • Ludvig Aberg
  • Viktor Hovland
  • Jon Rahm
  • Matt Fitzpatrick
